    WHY LONDON

    London is an attractive location for housing. On average, a one-bedroom home in London costs 44% more than a three-bedroom home in other parts of the country. Additionally, the average home in London has a relatively small amount of floor space per person, with just under 33m2. Despite this, the demand for housing in London remains strong, as demonstrated by the high number of new mortgages advanced to first-time buyers and home movers in the second quarter of 2021.  According to data from the Financial Conduct Authority, there were 19,500 new mortgages advanced to first-time buyers and 15,520 to home movers during this period, the highest levels since 2005 and 2007, respectively. Furthermore, data from the Department for Communities and Local Government shows that 37,180 net additional homes were completed in London in 2020-21.
